Dolan Lake and Campground

Hamilton County F&W Area also known as Dolan Lake , is a 1,683 acre site ideal for outdoor enjoyment. The property was acquired by the State of Illinois in 1960 and in 1962 a earthen damn was constucted for a 75 acre lake.The lake has 3 miles of shoreline and maximum depth is 18 feet. The site is one of gently rolling hills, with 1,300 acres being open for hunting. Most of the hunting area consists of small, open fields bordered by heavy fence rows, border plantings of warm season grasses, lespedeza and small food plots for wildlife food and cover.

Dolan Lake has a playground, fishing, boating and walking trails. There are 5 cabins available to rent. Campers and primitive tents are welcome also.

Hamilton County Museum

130 South Washington Street

The Hamilton County Museum is located on the 2nd floor of the McCoy Memorial Library across the street from the Hamilton County Courthouse. This beautiful building, with its white gingerbread and black iron trim, was the former home of Mary Ellen and Chalon Guard McCoy. Her father, Aaron Guard Cloud (1818-1893) had the house built by the Reid Brothers of Evansville, IN, in 1882-1884. He also owned the Cloud State Bank on the lot next to the house, built in 1880-1882 by the same contractors.




Heard’s Pond Park

The pond was originally built by damming a spring to supply water for the Louisville and Nashville Railroad steam engines, and during the winter to cut ice for shipping. There are a series of fishing sites connected by a paved pathway to a pavilion and fire pits. The park provides the perfect place for a child to begin a life-long love of fishing.




Izaak Walton Way

The smallest park and the site of the Izaak Walton Log Cabin built by the local chapter of the Izaak Walton League in 1936. It offers a boat ramp onto Lake McLeansboro, restroom facilities and the Cabin.



Kids Kingdom

402 West Meadow Acres Drive

A part of Edgar Satterfield Kiwanis Park, it is located next to the Kiwanis ball park and the City Pool. Kid’s Kingdom offers a magical recreation of Historic McLeansboro for children to climb, conquer, swing and slide. There is a pavilion, bathroom complex and a wooded area for exploring. The Edgar Satterfield Pavilion is outfitted with electrical outlets and lighting.





Lakeview Park "Reservoir"

Lakeview park is located on the 75 acre former City reservoir, and offers fishing, the Weinmann Pavilion for outdoor entertaining, cooking sites, and a play area for children. The pavilion is outfitted with electrical outlets and lighting.




McCoy Memorial Library

130 South Washington Street

The Aaron G. Cloud House, now the McCoy Memorial Library, was built in 1884 for Aaron G. Cloud, the founder of the Cloud State Bank; it has served as a library since 1922. The red brick house a central tower with a pyramidal roof atop the front entrance, a semicircular bay on the front facade, and an entrance porch spanning three bays of the building. The house includes Eastlake Style ornamentation throughout its design. The house includes nine interior fireplaces; the four fireplaces on the first floor are surrounded by decorative wood and tiles. The home was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 15, 1978.

McLeansboro City Pool

Home to the Otters Swim Team, the City Pool has been offering splashing fun to the young and young-at-heart for half a century. The season begins with Memorial Day and ends with the return to school in August. The pool offers swimming lessons and private parties. Contact City Hall for prices and times.



McLeansboro Golf Club

McLeansboro Golf Club is a nine-hole semi-private club located on the west side of McLeansboro, IL. The course features small bent grass greens and Bermuda fairways. With two reachable par 5’s and a drivable par 4, birdies and eagles are possible. However, with two challenging par 3’s and with OB or ditches that could come into play on 7 of the 9 holes big numbers are also a real possibility.

Organ Farms

Route 4, Box 271, McLeansboro

Organ Farms was established in 1945. In the past 60 years we have produced corn, soybeans, wheat, barley, rye and buckwheat. We have been in the beef (cow-calf) production business and swine (farrow to finish) operation.

During the fall months we offer a full line of decorative items as well as mums, pumpkins, gourds, fodder shocks, and our mini bales that can be decorated to suit your own taste. We have used them for fall weddings, as well as custom designed for special birthday centerpieces. This fall we plan to have more items to offer, as well as a corn maze, a "build-your-own-scarecrow", and hopefully a straw fort for the kids to play in. Lots more things to come!



Fox Prairie Disc Golf Course

The Fox Prairie Disc Golf Course is located near the edge of McLeansboro, just west of the golf course on Golf Course Road. The Course features two sets of trees, tight wooded shots, open field shots, unique greens, and many other fun characteristics that make this course diverse for all levels of players. The ball golf course has beverages, snacks, and restrooms available during golf season.


The course was made from a park consists of 58 acres of wood and meadow, with a small pond near the center. There is about 2 miles of easy walking trails and are planning more. Come check it out!
